Alexander George Clare, known professionally as Alex Clare, is a British electronic-pop singer and songwriter. His music synthesizes influences from soul, drum and bass, and dubstep, creating a distinctive contemporary sound that established him as a notable figure in British pop music.
Clare’s debut album, The Lateness of the Hour (2011), produced by Mike Spencer and Major Lazer, introduced his introspective songwriting and electronic production style. The album’s lead single “Too Close” became his defining commercial breakthrough, reaching number 4 on the UK Singles Chart and number 7 on the US Billboard Hot 100 following its placement in Internet Explorer 9 advertisements.
