Andrew Simon is an American clarinettist and principal clarinet of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. A seasoned solo artist, Simon specializes in the classical clarinet repertoire and is particularly recognized for his historically informed interpretations of works spanning from the Baroque era through twentieth-century compositions.
Simon established his professional career with a performance debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in 1989, following his award-winning achievement at the Artists International Young Musicians Auditions in the clarinet category. He has distinguished himself among contemporary clarinetists through his sustained commitment to Aaron Copland’s original 1948 Clarinet Concerto, a historically significant but rarely performed version of the work. Simon presented the Australian premiere of this concerto in 2000 under conductor Marin Alsop.
Beyond his principal orchestral position, Simon maintains an active international solo recital career.
