Biography / Discography
Bonnie Lynn Raitt is an American blues rock and folk-influenced singer-songwriter and guitarist. Born in Burbank, California, in 1949, she began her career in 1971 with a self-titled debut album and became known for critically acclaimed recordings that blended rock, blues, country, and folk influences. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, she worked as a session musician and collaborator with artists including Warren Zevon, Jackson Browne, John Prine, and Leon Russell.
Raitt achieved major commercial success with her tenth studio album, Nick of Time (1989), which reached number one on the Billboard 200 and won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Her subsequent albums Luck of the Draw (1991) and Longing in Their Hearts (1994) became multimillion sellers, generating several hit singles including ‘Something to Talk About,’ ‘Love Sneakin’ Up On You,’ and ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me,’ the latter featuring Bruce Hornsby on piano. These releases established her as one of the era’s defining voices in blues rock.
As of 2025, Raitt has won 13 competitive Grammy Awards from 31 nominations and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Her 2022 single ‘Just Like That’ won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year.
