About Delegation
Biography / Discography
Delegation is a British soul-funk band from Birmingham, England, formed in 1976. The original lineup featured Len Coley, Rick Bailey on lead vocals, and Roddy Harris. The group performed in soul, funk, disco, and R&B styles and achieved prominence across Europe and the United States during the late 1970s and 1980s.
The band gained initial success with the 1977 single ‘Where Is the Love (We Used to Know)’, followed by international breakthrough with ‘Oh Honey’ in 1979, which peaked at number 5 on the US Billboard R&B charts. Their second studio album, Eau de Vie (1979), yielded multiple hit singles including ‘You and I’, ‘Put a Little Love on Me’, and ‘Darling (I Think About You)’. Subsequent releases such as Delegation (1981) and Deuces High (1982) achieved success primarily in European markets.
Throughout the 1980s, the group experienced various personnel changes, including the addition of vocalist Kathy Bryant, the ensemble’s first female member. While their commercial peak occurred in the late 1970s, Delegation continued performing through the decade. In the mid-1990s, Rick Bailey reunited with producer Ken Gold to form Euro Jam Records, which led to the release of a final studio album, Encore, in 1999.
