About Du Blonde
Biography / Discography
Du Blonde is the musical project of Beth Jeans Houghton, an English singer, songwriter, and multi-disciplinary artist born in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1990. The project began in 2014, following an earlier recording career under Houghton’s given name starting in 2006. Du Blonde’s sound blends psychedelic pop, wonky pop, and indie sensibilities, rooted in influences spanning psychedelic rock, punk, blues, and 1960s garage rock.
The debut Du Blonde album, Welcome Back to Milk (2015) was recorded with producer Jim Sclavunos and released on Mute Records, earning a Metacritic score of 75. Lung Bread for Daddy (2019) marked Houghton’s first fully independent production, exploring relationships and mental health themes. The third album, Homecoming (2021), featured collaborations with Shirley Manson, Andy Bell, Ezra Furman, and members of Tunng. Du Blonde’s fourth album, Sniff More Gritty, was released in November 2024.
Beyond music, Houghton is recognized for directing and animating music videos for major artists including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ezra Furman, and LUMP. The artist’s work spans visual art, sculpture, and animation, creating a distinctive multimedia practice alongside Du Blonde’s evolving sonic output.
