About Ian Van Dahl
Biography / Discography
Ian Van Dahl is a Belgian Eurodance and vocal trance project created by producers Christophe Chantzis and Erik Vanspauwen. Formed in 2000, the project built its sound around a rotating lineup of female vocalists set to uptempo dance-pop and trance production, and became one of the signature acts of the early-2000s European Eurodance wave.
The project’s debut single, “Castles in the Sky”, featured original vocalist Martine Theeuwen (known as Marsha), who co-wrote the track. It reached number 3 on the UK Singles Chart, entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number 91, and was later certified platinum in the United Kingdom for sales exceeding 600,000 copies. Cindy Mertens appeared as the vocalist in live performances during this period, while Annemie Coenen joined in 2001 and became the project’s principal front singer.
With Coenen on vocals, Ian Van Dahl released the studio album Ace, which went Gold and was the best-selling dance album of its year in the UK, followed by further UK hit singles “Will I?” (number 5), “Reason” (number 8) and “Try” (number 15). A second studio album, Lost & Found, followed in 2004. Coenen left in 2008 to launch the solo project AnnaGrace, while co-founder Christophe Chantzis has continued to perform internationally as a DJ under the Ian Van Dahl name. The act is available to book for festivals, corporate events and private shows.
