About Kajagoogoo
Biography / Discography
Kajagoogoo was a British new wave and pop rock band from Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, originally formed as Art Nouveau in 1978 and renamed Kajagoogoo in 1982. The band achieved major international success with their 1983 debut single “Too Shy,” which topped the UK Singles Chart and reached the top 10 across numerous territories. Co-produced by Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran, this track became their signature hit and a defining moment of the new wave era.
The original lineup featured bassist Nick Beggs, guitarist Steve Askew, keyboardist Stuart Croxford Neale, drummer Jez Strode, and vocalist Limahl. Their debut album White Feathers (1983) peaked at number 5 on the UK Albums Chart, while follow-up singles “Ooh to Be Aah” and “Hang on Now” both reached the UK Top 20. Tensions within the band led to Limahl’s departure in mid-1983, with Nick Beggs assuming lead vocal duties. Subsequent releases showed declining commercial success, and Kajagoogoo disbanded in December 1985 after briefly rebranding as Kaja.
The five-piece reunited in 2008, touring internationally and releasing the album Gone to the Moon (2008) and the single “Death Defying Headlines” (2011). By 2017, the band had concluded their reunion period, with bassist Nick Beggs confirming they were no longer active.
