About Raissa
Biography / Discography
Raissa is an English singer-songwriter who records under the stage name Raissa (her legal name is Raissa Khan-Panni). Born in Lambeth, south London, in 1971, she is best known for her 2000 single “How Long Do I Get”, which received significant UK radio airplay and reached No. 47 on the UK Singles Chart. Her musical style blends pop and alternative sensibilities, informed by her songwriting collaborations with musicians Paul Sandrone and Dan Birch, whom she met while studying music in Bristol during the 1990s.
Raissa released her debut album Sleeping Bugs in 1996 via Big Cat Records, followed by Meantime (1997) and Believer (1999), both on Polydor. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with prominent UK acts, notably contributing vocals to Suede’s cover of Noël Coward’s “Poor Little Rich Girl” on the Twentieth-Century Blues tribute album and twice supporting Suede on UK tours. She has also provided guest vocals for dance duo LHB during their support slot on Kylie Minogue’s 2002 arena tour.
From 2008 onwards, Raissa became involved with the Brighton-based project The Mummers, collaborating on a series of albums including Tale to Tell (2008–2009) and Mink Hollow Road (2011), released through Big Bass Drum. This project showcased her continued artistic evolution within alternative and indie music circles, building on her established reputation as an accomplished vocalist and songwriter.
