Apparat is the stage name of Sascha Ring, one of Germany’s most innovative electronic musicians. Born in Quedlinburg, he began experimenting with electronic sounds in the late 1990s, quickly gaining recognition on Berlin’s underground scene. His early albums on Shitkatapult (Multifunktionsebene, Duplex) highlighted his talent for blending glitchy beats with delicate melodies, while his breakthrough release Walls (2007) introduced him to international audiences.
In 2011, Apparat released The Devil’s Walk, an album that shifted his sound toward lush, orchestral-inspired arrangements and cemented his reputation as a producer who bridges the worlds of electronic and contemporary music. His 2019 album LP5 further refined this style, earning critical acclaim for its emotional depth and sonic complexity.
Apparat is also a founding member of Moderat, his long-running collaboration with Modeselektor. Together, they released Moderat, II, and III, albums that defined a new era of electronic music and led to worldwide tours with stunning audiovisual shows. Their work won awards and consistently topped end-of-year lists, proving their global influence.
Beyond albums and live performances, Apparat has become an acclaimed composer for film and television. His work on the soundtrack for Netflix’s Dark (2017–2020) showcased his ability to create atmospheric, haunting music that resonates far beyond the dance floor.
Today, Apparat continues to evolve, performing at prestigious venues like the Barbican and Philharmonie de Paris as well as major festivals such as Sonar, Melt!, and Primavera. His music remains a powerful blend of vulnerability, innovation, and cinematic intensity, making him one of Europe’s most sought-after electronic artists.
