Basement is a British alternative rock band formed in Ipswich, England, in 2009. Known for their emotionally charged sound and honest songwriting, the band bridges post-hardcore, emo, and grunge influences with a melodic sensibility that has earned them a dedicated global following. The group consists of Andrew Fisher (vocals), Alex Henery (guitar, vocals), Ronnie Keogh (bass), James Fisher (drums), and Adam Smith (guitar).
Basement first emerged from the UK underground with their debut album I Wish I Could Stay Here (2011), capturing the raw emotion of early 2000s emo while infusing it with grunge-inspired grit. Their 2012 follow-up Colourmeinkindness became a breakthrough moment, praised for its emotional depth and sonic evolution. Despite the band announcing a hiatus shortly after its release, their growing cult following turned the album into a modern classic within alternative rock circles.
They returned stronger in 2016 with Promise Everything, showcasing a more polished yet equally passionate sound. The album’s title track and Aquasun became anthems for fans seeking authenticity and catharsis. Signing with Fueled by Ramen, Basement released Beside Myself (2018), a critically acclaimed record that balanced introspective lyricism with powerful arena-ready production.
Live, Basement are a revelation — balancing explosive intensity with quiet vulnerability. Their shows have sold out venues across North America, Europe, and Asia, while their festival appearances at Reading & Leeds, Lollapalooza, and Groezrock have cemented their reputation as one of the most emotionally resonant live acts in alternative music.
The band’s sound — somewhere between the honesty of early emo, the heaviness of grunge, and the melody of indie rock — continues to inspire a new generation of musicians and fans alike.
Basement remain a testament to the enduring power of raw emotion, connection, and honesty in music.
