FAQ about Benga

Benga — born Adegbenga Adejumo in Croydon, South London — is a British DJ, producer, and one of the true architects of the dubstep movement. Starting his career as a teenager in the early 2000s, Benga began producing tracks on a PlayStation game called Music 2000, creating sounds that would soon influence an entire generation of electronic artists. Alongside fellow innovators Skream and Artwork, he helped launch Magnetic Man, the first dubstep supergroup, which brought the underground genre into the global spotlight.

Benga’s early releases on the legendary Big Apple Records label, including Skank and 26 Basslines, laid the foundations for the dubstep sound — deep, dark, and rhythmically complex. His 2008 album “Diary of an Afro Warrior” is widely considered a landmark record, featuring the hit Night, co-produced with Skream, which became one of the defining tracks of the genre.

As part of Magnetic Man, Benga achieved mainstream success, performing on major stages such as Glastonbury, Coachella, and Ultra Music Festival, while releasing hits like I Need Air that brought dubstep to a global audience. His collaborations and remixes for artists such as Katy B, Coki, and Example further expanded his reach.

Beyond his music, Benga is recognized as a mental health advocate, having spoken openly about his journey through bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, inspiring others within the industry. Today, he continues to DJ and produce, connecting the legacy of early UK bass culture with modern electronic innovation. His performances remain a celebration of creativity, resilience, and the evolution of sound.
