Boyz II Men is an American R&B vocal harmony group from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, formed in 1985 and recognized as one of the biggest boy bands of the era. The ensemble is currently composed of baritone Nathan Morris and tenors Wanyá Morris and Shawn Stockman. Originally a quartet with bass vocalist Michael McCary, who departed in 2003, the group is known for multiple Grammy-winning ballads and chart-topping singles that defined 1990s R&B.
Boyz II Men achieved major commercial success beginning in 1991 with their debut album Cooleyhighharmony, which included hits such as “Motownphilly” and “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday.” Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, the group released a succession of number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including “End of the Road” (1992), “I’ll Make Love to You” (1994), and “One Sweet Day” with Mariah Carey (1995), which set records for weeks at number one. In 1994, they became only the second musical act, after The Beatles, to replace themselves atop the Hot 100 chart. The group won four Grammy Awards in the 1990s and received recognition from Billboard as the “biggest boy band” in 2012.
