FAQ's

What, Where, When, Who, How much...

Dr. Alban developed a sound that combined Eurodance, reggae, hip-hop and African musical influences, giving his records a style that differed from many other European dance acts of the 1990s.

Before his international music career, Alban Nwapa studied dentistry in Sweden and worked as a DJ at Stockholm club Alphabet Street. His stage name “Dr. Alban” was inspired by his dental studies.

For organisers looking for a recognisable 90s artist with a distinctive musical identity, Dr. Alban can be requested for festivals, corporate events and private celebrations.

Booking: Dr.Alban@bnmusic-artists.com

“It’s My Life” is Dr. Alban’s signature international hit and one of the best-known European dance tracks of the early 1990s.

According to Dr. Alban’s official website, the song reached No. 1 in Sweden, Austria, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Belgium, and No. 2 in the UK.

Its immediate recognition makes it particularly effective for 90s festivals, retro events, corporate parties and large private celebrations where organisers want a familiar dance-floor moment.

Dr. Alban’s catalogue extends beyond “It’s My Life.” His career began internationally with “Hello Afrika,” followed by a series of dance releases that established him across Europe and other markets. His best-known repertoire also includes songs such as “Sing Hallelujah!” and material from the albums Hello Africa and One Love.

This catalogue allows an organiser to present Dr. Alban not simply as a one-song nostalgia act, but as an artist associated with a broader period of international 90s dance music.

The exact programme for a particular event should be confirmed during the booking process.

Dr. Alban’s background and music are strongly international. Born in Nigeria and based in Stockholm, he built his career in Sweden while incorporating reggae, hip-hop, European dance production and African influences into his music.

His official website estimates worldwide record sales at approximately 16 million, reflecting an audience that has extended far beyond a single national market.

That international recognition can make Dr. Alban particularly relevant for multicultural corporate events, festivals and private celebrations with guests from different countries.

Yes. Dr. Alban’s current official website presents him as a music artist and entertainer based in Stockholm and specifically invites booking inquiries for events and performances.

This means organisers can submit proposals for current live appearances rather than treating Dr. Alban only as a legacy 1990s recording artist.

The exact performance format, date, travel requirements and commercial conditions must still be confirmed individually for each event.

For a current Dr. Alban booking request:

Email: Dr.Alban@bnmusic-artists.com

A useful Dr. Alban booking request should include the event date, city, country, venue, event type, expected audience size, preferred performance time and required show format.

For festivals and larger public events, it is also helpful to provide venue capacity, proposed artist billing, production information and travel arrangements. BnMusic’s formal artist-offer process requests these details because they help representatives evaluate an event accurately.

Send your event information to:

Dr.Alban@bnmusic-artists.com

BnMusic can then coordinate the inquiry and provide the relevant information about the available performance format and commercial conditions for your specific event.

About Dr. Alban

Biography / Discography

Dr. Alban (born Ogbuagu Alban Uzoma Nwapa, 26 August 1957) is a Nigerian-Swedish solo musician and producer who founded his record label Dr. Records. Working primarily in Eurodance, Europop, and dancehall styles, he achieved global commercial success in the early 1990s and has sold an estimated 16 million records worldwide. He is best known for his 1992 international hit “It’s My Life” from the album One Love.

Dr. Alban’s breakthrough came in 1990 when he collaborated with producer Denniz Pop and rapper Leila K on his debut album, releasing the hit single “Hello Afrika” as his stage name—a reference to his dental studies at Lund University. His second album One Love (1991) became his most successful work, with “It’s My Life” reaching number one in Israel, Austria, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Germany, and selling over two million copies across Europe. The album achieved platinum certification in Austria and Switzerland and gold status in Germany. His third album Look Who’s Talking! (1994) continued his success across major European markets, earning him gold certification in Sweden.

Dr. Alban founded his own label in 1996 and released Born in Africa, though subsequent releases saw diminishing chart performance. Following years away from recording, he returned with the album Back to Basics in 2007. In recent decades, he has continued releasing new material and has remained active in music, including collaborations with other artists and remakes of his classic hits. Available for festivals, corporate events, and private bookings.
