About Five
Biography / Discography
Five, often stylised as 5ive, is an English boy band formed in 1997 in London, consisting of Abz Love, Scott Robinson, Ritchie Neville, Sean Conlon, and Jason “J” Brown. The group emerged from auditions held by Heart Management and was signed by producer Simon Cowell to BMG/RCA Records. They became one of the most successful British boy bands of the late 1990s and early 2000s, blending pop, dance-pop, and teen pop influences.
The band released their debut single, “Slam Dunk (Da Funk),” in November 1997, followed by the international hit “When the Lights Go Out,” which reached number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their self-titled debut album (1998) sold over 4 million copies worldwide and produced multiple UK top-3 singles: “Got the Feelin’,” “Everybody Get Up,” and “Until the Time Is Through.” Their second album, Invincible (1999), generated UK number-one hits including “We Will Rock You” and “Keep On Movin’,” the latter becoming their best-selling single. The third album, Kingsize, arrived in 2001 before the group announced their split in September. Five sold over 20 million records globally, with UK certifications totalling 1.6 million albums and 3.4 million singles.
The band briefly reformed without Conlon in 2006, then reunited in 2012 as a four-piece excluding Brown. They appeared on ITV2’s The Big Reunion (2013) and toured extensively. Love departed in August 2014, leaving a trio of Conlon, Neville, and Robinson until the original five-member lineup reunited in February 2025.
