When the fathers of Vít Starý and Matyáš Vorda were at a joint celebration of the Mediterian group in 2001, they decided that the boys could play songs together (the name originated as a word replacing any word, the idea appeared in the Russian satirical show Gorodok). This created a duo of Víťa (vocals and guitar) and Mates (drums). Between 2002 and 2003, their friend (keyboards and accordion) joined the band, but eventually left. Vít and Matyáš started composing their own songs and took part in the Muse competition in Pilsen, but without success. At this event, they met Pep Bolan, who was playing in the band Velvet Ecstasy at the time, and Coopi, who was playing in the group Pornocowboys at the time. Then they played several concerts together. In 2004, František and Josef Bolan (vocals, guitar) joined the band Mandrage (Víťa – vocals and guitar; Mates – drums; Coopi – bass guitar).
In 2005, the demo “She said something was bothering her” was released. A year later, Mandrage signed a contract with Universal Music.
In 2007, the band released a full-length CD called We Came for Your Children. She was also nominated for “Discovery of the Year” at the Anděl Awards and Óčko Music Television Awards. The group also performed as a frontman for the PEHA group. A year later, the band toured Wanastowi Vjecy.
In 2009, the band released their second CD entitled Looking for a Woman named after the hit of the same name. They became the winners of the Óčko Music Awards in the rock category.
During 2010, the single “Looking for a Woman” topped the charts in the Czech Republic. The band embarked on their first major tour called The Wanted Woman Tour. She also performed at the Divokej Bill concert and was one of the most performing groups in the Czech Republic. With the song “Hledá se žena” she was nominated for the Anděl awards and became the winner in the TV Óčko music awards and the winner in the category Discovery of the Year of the Slovak Musiq1. The Mandrage “Woman Wanted Tour” included a woman search project involving over 250 women and girls (more than 100,000 users voted for it on the website). The winner then spent the weekend with the group.
In 2011, the group celebrated 10 years of operation, the anniversary was connected with the Tour of 10 Years of Mandrage in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Great Britain and Germany. The band released a new album called My Blood Group and released the first single from the album, “Františkovy lázně”. The single was conceived differently than previous songs, more electro and sound effects were added. She later published Bolts and Nuts. The whole album was released on November 27. The band again won the TV Óčko award in the rock category.
In 2012, the song “Screws and Nuts” was a success in all Czech charts of modern music. It became the most played song on the radio this year. There was a tour My blood type. In the Anděl awards, the group took second place in the “Composition of the Year” category and 1st place in the “Group of the Year” category with the song Šrouby a nuts. In the Žebřík poll with this song, she took 1st place in the “Song of the Year” category and 2nd place in the “Group of the Year” category. In the Český Slavík Mattoni poll, the group placed 4th as the group of the year. In 2013, the group was nominated by fans in the TV Óčko music awards (category “Group of the Year”). The group finished in second place.
In 2013, the group played many concerts and participated in major festivals. She finished 3rd in the Óčka Music Awards in the “Group of the Year” category. In the fall, November 8, 2013, she released the album “Silhouettes”. Music critics received it positively and the evaluation was mostly positive. In December, they performed for Kapka naděje in the O2 arena.
In 2014, they performed at the Three Kings Collection in January. In the spring of March 1, their biggest Silhouettes tour started so far. They played 14 concerts in the Czech Republic and one in Slovakia. At the Žebřík music awards, they won 1st place in the group category and 2nd place in the Song of the Year category, in which the song Siluety scored points.
In 2015, Mandrage released their last album called Darkness Are All Black. This is a very dance album, in an interview for iReport they stated that after rather dreamy melodies (Silhouettes) and an acoustic theater tour, they wanted to bring some life to their production.
