About Martin Sexton
Biography / Discography
Martin Sexton is an American folk singer-songwriter and music producer from Syracuse, New York. Born in 1966, Sexton is known for his distinctive indie folk sound and prolific recording career spanning over three decades. Beginning with self-produced demo recordings in the early 1990s, he has released numerous albums through his independent Kitchen Table Records label while maintaining an active touring schedule.
Sexton began his professional career in Boston in 1988, performing on street corners and at open mic nights. His self-released 1991 demo In the Journey gained significant grassroots support, selling 15,000 copies independently. He was recognized with the National Academy of Songwriters Artist of the Year Award in 1994. Sexton released several albums with major labels, including Black Sheep (1996), The American (1998), and Wonder Bar (2000), before founding Kitchen Table Records in 2001.
Since 2001, Sexton has maintained creative control through Kitchen Table Records, releasing albums including Seeds (2007), Solo (2008), Sugarcoating (2010), and Mixtape of the Open Road (2015). In 2017, he formed The Martin Sexton Trio with bassist Chris Anderson and multi-instrumentalist Boo Reiners. His most recent album, 2020 Vision, was released in 2021. Sexton is available to book for festivals, corporate events, and private shows.
