Paktofonika was a pioneering Polish hip-hop group formed in 1998 in Katowice by Magik (Piotr Łuszcz), Fokus (Wojciech Alszer), and Rahim (Sebastian Salbert). Their music blended sharp lyricism with deep, introspective themes, addressing social issues, personal struggles, and existential reflections.

In 2000, the group released their only studio album, Kinematografia, which quickly became a milestone in Polish hip-hop. Tracks like Jestem Bogiem and Chwile Ulotne gained cult status, resonating deeply with fans. However, the band’s success was overshadowed by tragedy—on December 26, 2000, Magik tragically took his own life, just days after the album’s release.

Following Magik’s death, Fokus and Rahim completed Paktofonika’s final project, Archiwum Kinematografii (2002), before disbanding. Despite their short career, Paktofonika’s influence on Polish rap is undeniable, inspiring generations of artists and cementing their place in the country’s musical history. Their story was later adapted into the acclaimed 2012 film “Jesteś Bogiem”, further solidifying their legacy.
