The band got its name and functioned since 1988, when a primordial line-up was formed around Matěj Homola in Prague’s Vinohrady, in the same year they played their historically first concert in Prague’s Řeporyje and managed to play three songs during it. Because, according to the Homol brothers, the period 1988–1995 was the operation of the band “quite chaotic”, it was officially formed in its “new era” in 1996, but became more widely known in 1998, when it was the lead band on tour with Lucie, Yellow Dog and American The Offspring in Prague. In the same year, the band signed with Sony Music / Bonton and released their first album, CunDaLla. This was followed by the albums Bad Music for Dinner (2000), Pedro Returns (2002), Dating with Mr. Benda (2004) and a selection of rarities that did not make it to the albums, Unreleased (2005). In the autumn of 2006, Wohnout released their fifth studio album called Kiss Your Grandfather, which also features members of the Finnish band Waltari. This album is interesting in that it was not recorded in a classical music studio, but in solitude by the forest, in a former farmhouse converted into a boarding house.
The band celebrated its ten-year existence in November 2006 with a concert in the Industrial Palace at the Prague Exhibition Grounds and at the same time christened their album. The three Sisters, Vypsaná fiXa, Divokej Bill and others performed at this concert as guests. The recording of the concert should be released on DVD. In 2007, the band released a live album called Živáček. At this concert they christened the album Kiss Your Grandfather (2006). In 2011, the group released a CD called Our Clients. In 2013, she released the DVD Electronic Hen for this CD. This DVD documents the recording of the CD to our clients. The DVD was recorded by Oleg Homola (father of Matěj and Honza Homolov). In 2014, the group released a record called Laskonky a Kremrole.
The band bet on colorful, hard and at the same time melodic guitars, Czech lyrics and energetic concerts, which soon won the favor of the listeners.
In 2015 and 2017, the band performed at the Romanian Banat Festival.
The most successful composition of this group is undoubtedly the Union of Czech Bohemians (2012) published on YouTube. In 2020, this song reached 50 million views, which makes it the most watched Czech music video on this platform. Other very successful Czech songs include Nafrněná (2015) by Barbora Poláková – 44 million views or Stairs from the Sky (2010) from the production of singer Tereza Kerndlová – 36 million views.
