Heart is an American rock band formed in Seattle in 1967, evolved from earlier projects led by founding members Roger Fisher (guitar) and Steve Fossen (bass guitar). By 1975, sisters Ann Wilson (lead vocals, flute) and Nancy Wilson (rhythm guitar, vocals) had joined, alongside Michael Derosier (drums) and Howard Leese (guitar, keyboards), forming the classic lineup inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. The band rose to prominence with music blending hard rock, heavy metal, and folk influences, achieving major success through the mid-to-late 1970s with hits including “Magic Man” (1975), “Barracuda” (1977), and “Crazy on You” (1976).
Following a significant lineup change in the early 1980s, Heart staged a successful comeback in the mid-1980s with their self-titled Capitol Records debut (1985), which spawned four top-10 hits. Their 1987 album Bad Animals produced the power ballad “Alone,” which became the band’s most commercially successful song, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one in Canada. The band continued charting hits throughout the 1990s, including “All I Wanna Do Is Make Love to You” (1990). After disbanding in 1998, Heart has regrouped and resumed touring multiple times, with the Wilson sisters remaining as consistent core members. The band has been nominated for four Grammy Awards and has sold over 50 million records worldwide, with recognitions including ranking 57th on VH1’s “100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock.”
