About Journey
Biography / Discography
Journey is an American rock band formed in San Francisco in 1973 by former members of Santana, the Steve Miller Band, and Frumious Bandersnatch. Originally a progressive rock ensemble, the band pivoted to arena rock and pop-influenced commercial rock in the late 1970s, becoming one of America’s most successful and recognizable rock acts.
The band achieved peak commercial success between 1978 and 1987 under lead vocalist Steve Perry, releasing the multi-platinum album Escape (1977), which reached number one on the Billboard 200. Their signature track, “Don’t Stop Believin’” (1981), became the best-selling digital single in US history, certified 18-times platinum as of 2024. The 1983 follow-up Frontiers reached number two in the US and number six in the UK, cementing their international appeal.
Journey regrouped multiple times after Perry’s departure, first with singer Steve Augeri from 1998 to 2006, then with lead vocalist Arnel Pineda from 2007 to the present. The band’s cumulative sales have generated 25 gold and platinum albums. The current lineup features guitarist and co-lead vocalist Neal Schon (the sole consistent original member), keyboardists Jonathan Cain and Jason Derlatka, drummer Deen Castronovo, lead vocalist Arnel Pineda, and bassist Todd Jensen. Journey remains available for festivals, corporate events, and live performances.
