Biography / Discography
Loona is the stage name of Dutch pop and dance singer Marie-José van der Kolk, born in 1974. She initially performed under the stage name Carisma in the 1990s while collaborating with DJ producer Sammy. In 1998, she adopted the stage name Loona (inspired by the Spanish word “luna” meaning “moon”) and released her debut single under that name, a cover of Paradisio’s “Bailando”. This track became a major European hit, reaching number one in Germany and establishing her signature sound in eurodance and pop music.
Throughout her career, van der Kolk has built a substantial catalog focused on dance covers and pop compositions, achieving significant chart success across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, and France. Her studio albums include Lunita (1999), Entre dos aguas (2000), Colors (2002), Wind of Time (2005), Moonrise (2008), Rakatakata (2013), and Badam (2016), alongside several compilation releases. Among her most successful singles are “Hijo de la Luna” (a Mecano cover), “Vamos a la playa” (which peaked at number 2 in Belgium in 2010), and “Rhythm of the Night”.
