About Righeira
Biography / Discography
Righeira is an Italian Italo-disco duo from Turin consisting of Johnson Righeira (Stefano Righi) and Michael Righeira (Stefano Rota). Formed in the early 1980s, they became one of the defining acts of the Italian dance music scene, achieving massive international success with their signature Spanish-language hit ‘Vamos a la playa,’ which spent 10 weeks at number one in Italy and sold three million copies worldwide.
The group released their self-titled debut album in September 1983, establishing themselves as major forces in European pop and dance music. Their follow-up single ‘No tengo dinero’ achieved top-20 status across multiple European charts. Other notable tracks including ‘L’estate sta finendo’ and ‘Innamoratissimo’ reinforced their popularity throughout the 1980s. They participated in the prestigious 1986 Sanremo Music Festival and released the album Bambini Forever in 1986.
After disbanding in 1992, the duo reunited in 1999 and released their final album Mondovisione in 2007. Righeira’s catalog defined the sound of Italo-disco and remains influential in electronic dance music history.
