Elizabeth Rebecca Pemberton-Mitchell, known professionally as Liz Mitchell, is a Jamaican-born vocalist born in 1952. She rose to prominence as the lead vocalist of the disco and reggae band Boney M, which she joined in February 1976. Mitchell served as the vocal core of the group during its peak commercial success throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, establishing herself as a distinctive voice in popular music.
Boney M, created and produced by Frank Farian, evolved from a backing project into an internationally successful recording ensemble with Mitchell as its primary voice. The band achieved significant chart success with both disco and reggae material across multiple albums. Mitchell remained with Boney M for a decade until the group’s initial disbandment in 1986.
Following Boney M’s split, Mitchell pursued both solo recording and reunion projects. Her solo discography includes No One Will Force You (1988), Share the World (1999), Christmas Rose (2000), and Let It Be (2004), along with Liz Mitchell Sings the Hits of Boney M.
