Samuele Bersani was born on 1 October 1970 in Rimini, Italy, and raised in Cattolica. Coming from a culturally rich background—his father a professional flautist and his mother involved in local education—Bersani grew up surrounded by music and literature. He studied at a classical lyceum and began performing in local bands during his youth.
In 1991, he was discovered by legendary Italian artist Lucio Dalla and invited to open several of his concerts. His debut album C’hanno preso tutto (1992) introduced him to a national audience, followed by Freak (1995), which included the hit “Spaccacuore” — later covered by Laura Pausini.
His self-titled third album in 1997 featured one of his most beloved songs, “Giudizi universali,” and won the Lunezia Prize for the literary quality of his lyrics. Over the years, Bersani earned the Mia Martini Critics Award twice at the Sanremo Festival — in 2000 for “Replay” and in 2012 for “Un pallone.”
His critically acclaimed discography includes ten studio albums, such as L’oroscopo speciale (2000), Manifesto abusivo (2009), Nuvola numero nove (2013), and Cinema Samuele (2020), which won the Targa Tenco for Best Album. Known for his introspective lyrics and sophisticated musical style, he has also written for Italian icons like Mina, Ornella Vanoni, and Fiorella Mannoia.
