Durron Maurice Butler, known professionally as Turbo B., is an American rapper and beatboxer best known as the frontman of Snap!, a German electronic music group. Born April 30, 1967 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, Butler developed an early passion for music, initially performing as a drummer in a heavy metal band before joining the United States Army in 1985. After military service in Germany, he toured with the Fat Boys before being discovered by Snap! producers Michael Münzing and Luca Anzilotti in 1989.
With Snap!, Butler provided the distinctive vocals and beatboxing for two breakthrough albums: World Power (1990) and The Madman’s Return (1992). The group achieved international chart success with the singles “The Power” and “Rhythm Is a Dancer,” both major international hits that helped define early 1990s electronic dance music. Butler’s vocal performances became iconic during this period, though he departed the group in 1992 due to creative differences with management.
Following his exit from Snap!, Butler pursued a solo career, releasing Make Way for the Maniac in 1993 on Polydor Records. He formed Centory in 1994, which produced four minor hits from their album Alpha Centory. Butler reunited with Snap! briefly in 2000 and has remained active in music, collaborating with electronic and dance artists including Victoria Silvstedt, H-Blockx, and Regi Penxten.
