Biography / Discography
Joe Walsh, born Joseph Fidler Walsh, is an American rock guitarist, singer and songwriter. Emerging from the Ohio rock scene in the mid-1960s after attending Kent State University, he built his career across three prominent bands: the James Gang, Barnstorm, and the Eagles, alongside a parallel solo career.
Walsh joined the James Gang in the late 1960s and became the group’s primary vocalist and guitarist before departing in 1972. He then formed Barnstorm, whose recordings were released under his own name as a solo artist; this period produced the hit single “Rocky Mountain Way.” His solo work continued to chart with songs including “Life’s Been Good.”
In 1975, Walsh joined the Eagles as guitarist and keyboardist, succeeding founding member Bernie Leadon, and became a key contributor to the band’s sound, including celebrated guitar work on “Hotel California.” He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 as a member of the Eagles and into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2001. Rolling Stone has ranked him among the greatest guitarists of all time.
