Biography / Discography
Kiki Dee, born Pauline Matthews on 6 March 1947, is a British soul and pop vocalist who became the first female British artist signed to Motown’s Tamla Records. Her blue-eyed soul vocals helped shape the sound of 1970s British pop.
She released her debut album, I’m Kiki Dee, in 1968, followed by hit singles including “Amoureuse” (1973) and “I’ve Got the Music in Me” (1974). Her most significant success came with her 1976 duet with Elton John, “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart,” which reached number one on both the UK Singles Chart and the US Billboard Hot 100. In 1993, the duo reunited for a cover of Cole Porter’s “True Love,” which peaked at number two in the UK.
Throughout her career, Dee has recorded 12 studio albums, 3 EPs, and 40 singles. She has also appeared in musical theater, earning an Olivier Award nomination in 1989 for her role in Blood Brothers on London’s West End. Notable live performances include Live Aid in 1985 and extensive touring with musicians including Roger Taylor and Jack Bruce. From the 1990s onward, Dee has regularly recorded and performed with Carmelo Luggeri. Available to book for festivals, corporate events, and private shows.
